I think my favourite player of all time. Langurous, classy, explosive, two-footed, cultured, clever….he had it all. From an Arsenal fan.

The more often that one watches this, the more riches reveal themselves: yes, Dennis Lillie, but also Ray Bright. Yes Bob Willis but also Chris Old. The pivotal moment was his taking Allan Border's wicket. And another thing. That summer I was writing up my PhD Tgesis. Before then I'd taught Chemistry in three schools in south-east London/North-west Metropolitan Kent. In each case it was the Headmaster that made the school (or, in the first instance, Charterhouse Secondary Modern for Boys, the Deputy Head Bill Bailey). Thefore, in this case, Mike Brearley (and also Kim Hughes). But, of course, Ian Botham! Grat commentating and Umpiring too. Thank-you!

When you consider the bowling attacks he faced and the batters he bowled against he's got to be in the list of great all rounders

The acceleration of that guy was immense. For England.....Roger Hunt's all-round workrate or Greave's last quarter of the pitch speed , acceleration & accuracy of shot ? Jimmy for me any day , but Sir Alf begged to disagree . Against the hard-working West German in '66 - obviously he got it right. But not taking him to Mexico four years later was cruel .

Thanks for uploading this video.......only just came across it on RUclips. What memories this brings back to me at a time when i first fell in love with the game of cricket. The crowds make Test cricket which is why it's depressing to have just watched highlights of the first day of the second Test between WI and SA where there wasn't any crowd to speak of.Sad times for a lot of Test cricket.

On Australia's fast pitches, England's batsmen struggled for runs. But,as Lillee,Thomson and co soon discovered, cricket becomes a different game when the pitches are slow. A really great performance from John Edrich,in particular.

Very interesting, particularly in colour. Two year's before Snow toured Australia in Illingworth's team ,it is clear to see how John Snow was developing, hurrying the batsmen with good sharp bowling. No wonder he ran amok in '70-'71. Thanks for the upload 😁👍

  • @mochan8447

Well this example is also a summary of Snow's career which can be otherwise expressed as mediocre, whereas Gavaskar who was unfazed by the incident reached the pinnacle. This speaks to the virtue of calm but deadly focus versus mindless and premeditated aggression which only ended up getting in the way of what might have been a slightly less forgettable career for Snow.

Spot on. It’s the lack of humility and grace. Colin Cowdrey would take a catch in the slips and pop the ball in his pocket and amble about. No histrionics like today!

You have to give credit where it is due - Tony Greig was the omly Test batsman I can think of who was brave enough to taunt Lillee and Thomson in their prime. An insane thing to do for ordinary men,but then there was nothing ordinary about Greig. An underappreciated warrior who won his spurs in the arena of gladiatorial warfare.

In Australia it was Ball by Ball Radio Commentary those days. Commentary differs when it comes to Television.. Not much explanation needed for TV Commentary. Indian commentators give Radio Commentary for TV .
